Good product at a reasonable price
I chose this chicken roaster/cooker over other pottery versions because I prefer the color, although I was a little hesitant because I've never ordered cookware from The Wine Enthusiast before and there were no reviews posted yet.
I don't have anything to compare this one to because I've never owned a roaster specifically for chicken until now. Nonetheless, this one does a great job roasting a chicken and the results are moist and flavorful. I was a little concerned about the capacity because we like plenty of potatoes and carrots but the bowl holds quite a bit. The chicken stayed upright with no problem and the handles make it easy to maneuver. However I would caution that, while the pouring lip is nice and wide, it also makes for a fairly shallow bowl and it's easy to spill the juices if you're not careful. Finally, the cooker cleaned up nicely in the dishwasher. I don't know what more I could ask.
Makes Delicious Tender Chicken :)
I love my wine cooker. It makes delicious chicken that has lots of flavor and is very tender. I add the wine, layer the edges with citrus fruits and veggies, and rub the skin of the chicken with my favorite spices. I tried the same technique with my slow cooker (same veggies, spices, and wine) but the skin does not brown nicely and it did not turn out as good. With the wine chicken cooker it smells and looks delicious when cooking, browns great, and it always turns out perfect. :)
Works wonderfully, but only once
Like many other reviewers, I found large cracks in the glazing after only one use. I followed the instructions to start with a cold oven, used room-temperature beer in the infuser cup, cooked the bird for an hour and a quarter at 350 degrees. The chicken was great, but the cooker was toast. The seller gave a quick refund, and I'm now awaiting delivery of a "Weber 6408 Style Poultry Roaster," which is metal and useable both on a grill and in the oven. Hopefully it will survive its intended use better than the ceramic versions, which all seem to suffer from the use of inadequate materials in their manufacture.
